A heavy downpour in Blantyre on Sunday dampened the mood of cricket lovers as it forced organisers of Inter-Club T-20 Cricket League to postpone three of the four fixtures scheduled for the day.

According to the competition’s organising committee chairperson Shiraz Zaveri, only the morning match involving hosts Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) Brown and Indian Sports Club (ISC) was played before the rains made the cricket fields wet and unplayable.

Zaveri: We hope to have better weather condition

After that match, the venue was expected to host an encounter between MSC Blue and MSC Tete in the afternoon. The Oriental Cricket Club (OCC) was also scheduled for an encounter between MSC Yellow and Pharmanova and a match involving MSC White and MSC Purple.

“Cricket lovers were in the mood to witness potentially explosive matches last weekend but the rains spoiled the show. We hope to have better weather condition as the league gets to its third week this weekend,” Zaveri said.

All the same, all was not lost on the day as the MSC Brown versus ISC match produced some exciting action. ISC squeezed life out of their hosts with a five-wicket triumph. Brown made a total of 120 runs in the entire 20 overs before ISC did it in just 15.4 overs.

Brown’s Talha Hansbhai and Fayaz Limbada were the best batsman and bowler of the match with 43 runs and three wickets, respectively, but their individual efforts were not enough to save the side from the jaws of defeat. Hansbhai was followed by ISC’s Kunal Shah and Pinkesh Patel who managed 34 runs and 21 runs, in that order.

“We did our best to produce the desired results only that luck was not with us. We will do our best to win our next game,” Hansbhai said. n
