DPP aspirant apologises for Nsanje fracas

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aspiring ward councillor for Chigumukire Ward in Nsanje Central Constituency Kafumphe Sinos Dzowa has apologised over a fracas that took place last week at a public debate organised by National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust.

Drunken alleged DPP supporters disrupted a public debate for parliamentary candidates in the constituency.

Candidates hold hands to pledge a peaceful campaign

Dzowa confessed that some of his supporters were drunk and caused havoc at the debate.

“The acts of violence from DPP supporters are tarnishing our image as a party and also as candidates,” said Dzowa in a phone conversation with Kondwani Malunga, one of the organisers of the series of the debates taking place in Nsanje District.

He asked the organisers not to sideline the party and its candidates in the forth coming debates, promising to discipline their supporters and ensure peaceful debates.

In his remarks Nice Trust district civic education officer Kondwani Malunga said the debates seek to encourage citizens to participate in elections in a peaceful manner and as such “violence cannot be condoned”.

He commended the candidate for condemning the violence and asked other candidates and party leaders to do the same.
