The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has called on People’s Party (PP) to level the preparation ground for the 2014 Tripartite Elections by allowing other parties to hold rallies in public places.

DPP regional governor (North) Kenneth Sanga made the call on Wednesday during a press briefing in Mzuzu. He said DPP is a victim of PP’s abuse of powers in barring others from holding rallies.

However, PP spokesperson Ken Msonda said complaints from DPP are always unfounded. He said the party was expressing unknown fears.

“That is what they used to do and we don’t promote that. They are guilty of their own acts as they are the ones who barred others from holding rallies,” said Msonda.

Sanga said DPP was being victimised in the North, a development he said was tantamount to rigging elections.

Sanga said where there are cases of victimisation, the party will launch complaints to district commissioners shortly.
