Kabwila: Why are they failing to provide answers?

Member of Parliament (MP) for Salima North West Jessie Kabwila on Tuesday triggered confusion in Parliament when she called the Democratic Progressive Party (DDP)-led government “incompetent and uncaring.”

She was reacting to First Deputy Speaker Esther Mcheka Chilenje’s observation that most questions appearing on the day’s Order Paper were not answered by line ministers owing to their absence in the chamber.

“Let’s face the fact here, people must stop calling this government a caring one; this is an incompetent government. Why are they failing to provide answers to the questions we are asking?” wondered Kabwila.

This did not please the First Deputy Speaker who asked Kabwila to take her seat because, among other things, her allocated time was already used.

“Honourable member, I have done you a big favour for exceeding your allocated time and you shouldn’t take advantage of that to bring out such statements.

“I, therefore, don’t sustain your point of order and because we seem to have started on a bad note today, may I ask Leader of the House to guide us on the way forward,” she said.

However, instead of calming down nerves, Leader of the House Francis Kasaila aggravated the issue by making a statement that seemingly amused neither Mcheka Chilenje nor Kabwila, who nonetheless remained quiet.

“It’s unfortunate that some members want to use language that instigates chaos; they want to show off that they are more educated than others,” said Kasaila.

  1. To be frank, you Kabwila you are the incompetent one! I am sure the ministers who are absent are busy doing things that need to be done; for example I know Mrs Kaliati is in USA at a summit to do wit gender, Dr. Kalilani is at a global health meeting in UK and Saulos is at SADC! to give a few examples. Which of these honourable members would you have liked to neglect their duties outside parliament?

You talk like these MPs are sitting in their homes eating nkute! Can you not find more constructive, graceful, language to use when you want to address these issues? You sound so crude every time you open your mouth!

We have had eneough of Joyce Banda type language and we don’t want people talking in this savage manner in our house of assembly!

Mr. Chakwera please educate this “uneducated PhD holder” who does not know how to talk with grace as we are getting just a little irritated with her outbursts!
