DPP re-unites with suspended cadets

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has waived suspension for over 20 cadets that protested the presence of ministers of Finance Goodall Gondwe and Information, Tourism and Civic Education Jappie Mhango at a youth meeting.

In February last year, the cadets walked out of a meeting convened by the ministers in Mzuzu, arguing that they were in no position to hear what the youth wanted to present.

However, when convened the meeting and started addressing them, the cadets walked out of the room.

The party barred the cadets from attending or holding party meetings or any activities for the party pending a decision on the matter by the national governing council.

The party has since reconciled with them after they apologised for their actions.

“The reconciliation will help make the party stronger in the region as divisions affect party building. The cadets apologised to the party for walking out of the meeting and branding the ministers as those in no capacity to hear their problems.

“These are party die-hards. They have been with the party ever since. It was unfortunate that things turned out that way. However, they apologised and we have forgiven them,” said DPP regional governor for the North Kenneth Sanga when confirming the development.

One of the cadets Yosefe Misinde confirmed discussing issues with the party and resolving their differences.

He said the suspended cadets are party die-hards and this is the reason they did not defect to other parties during their suspension.
