Dreams United in remarkable Donna’s Eggs League return

Dreams United made a remarkable return to the Donna’s Eggs Southern Region Women Football League on Friday when they beat hosts St Andrew’s High School 16-0.

The Ndirande-based team disbanded at the start of the 2011 season due to financial woes, but has since regrouped.

Eliza and Esther Chiphang’ombe did the damage when they scored seven and five goals respectively to make an early start for the hunt for the Golden Boot Award. Eliza Mtuwanga notched a brace while Phalece Pereira and Linda Namuku scored one each to complete the rout.

“We are back to business. We have found some well-wishers who occasionally support the team financially, but we are looking for more support to sustain the team in the competition,” said Dreams United coach Anthony Chiphang’ombe after the game.

In another Donna’s Eggs encounter at Chiwembe ground on Saturday, Kings Ladies beat newcomers Heavens Stars 7-0. Orama Miranda and Flora Daniel contributed two goals each whereas Blandina Zulu, Sphiwe Banda and Kumbukani Munthali scored a goal each.

The two teams have made it into the second round, where they will be drawn against seeded Blantyre Zero, Ntopwa Queens, Evirom Sisters, Atu Ladies, Topik Queens, Yomode Sisters, Zomba City Queens and Sitima, according to Southern Region Women Football Committee (SRWFC) general secretary Patricia Damalekani.
