Driver charged for causing death of Mzuni student

Police have charged driver of a minibus that killed a Mzuzu University (Mzuni) student on Wednesday.
Mussa Gama, 28, from Chimala Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Nyambi in Machinga, was driving a minibus that caused the death of Semu Solomon Banda, a first year student. Banda met his fate while on his way to school to finalise his registration.

Gama, who was driving the minibus registration MZ 1410, was coming from Ekwendeni direction heading to Mzuzu.
“He handed himself to police and has been charged for reckless driving,” said Mzuzu Police Station spokesperson Martin Bwanali, yesterday.
The vehicle was set on fire soon after the accident as police took time to get to the scene.
Mzuni Students Representative Council (Musrec) president Wazamazama Katatu said Banda’s remains were taken to Balaka on Wednesday and burial was scheduled for yesterday. n

  1. Please we do not want to hear some silly judgement that the driver has been fined K80 000. The driver must be jailed for reckless driving.

    1. How do you know that it was the driver’s fault that the pedestrian was killed. Are you a driver? If not be aware that pedestrians and cyclists are capable of the most stupid acts, such as suddenly moving onto the road without looking.

          The driver is innocent until proven guilty. Understand litigation procedures before being preemptive. Banda’s comment is level-headed.
