In an interview yesterday, Ntcheu Police Station spokesperson Gift Matewere said the tanker, registration BK 8839, belongs to Rashy Transport.

He said Thom alleged that on Wednesday, June 15 2016 at around 7pm, an unknown saloon overtook and blocked him from speeding.

“He further alleges that in the process he saw two men in masks opening the other side of the vehicle and they tied him up. He says they travelled over two hours to an unknown destination where he spent a day and later was taken in another vehicle and dumped near Ntcheu, where he came to police to report the matter,” said Matewere.

The police spokesperson further said police arrested Thom pending investigations. Preliminary investigations by police led to the recovery of the tanker, which was empty and dumped at Kachipeya Village along the M1 Road.

He said: “Meanwhile, investigations on the matter are still underway and the driver has been charged with the offence of theft by public servant.”

Thom comes from Chimangire Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimwala in Mangochi. n
