About 13 driving schools in the Central Region are daily queuing for one computer at the Directorate of Road Traffic Safety Services (DRTSS) in Lilongwe to log in attendance reports of their students.

Congestion at Lilongwe DRTSS

This stems from the breakdown of one computer in a cubicle DRTSS set aside for the driving schools to register their students during training.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one driving school owner said this is affecting their operations as it is increasing workload.

DRTSS regional head Fergus Gondwe has asked driving school owners not to despair.

Said Gondwe. “The driving schools log their attendance sheets right here and they are taking our space.

“It is not only them who are being inconvenienced even ourselves. Going forward, we want the logging to be done in the various driving schools.”

“Come end February driving schools will smile because the service will be taken to their premises. We will just be monitoring to ensure that they adhere to our set standards,” he said.

Billy Driving School proprietor Billy Green said they could have been happy if the service was maintained at DRSS. n
