The grand finale of the 2014 Sunbird Search for a Star promises an exciting night on October 11 at Sunbird Mount Soche, as the five finalists are set to perform duets.

Mangochi’s John Chiumia, Mac Luther Mambala and Alipo Mpita from Blantyre, Lilongwe’s Tawonga Kamanga and Esther Lewis are battling for the K500 000 prize through public voting.

“We are planning a big show on the finale, full of surprises and entertainment. Alipo will perform with Esther, McLuther will be with Taonga and John Chiumia will perform with? That is the big question that people will witness the answer right there,” said the show’s projects manager Felix Njawala.

He asked people to vote in large numbers in order to have their favourite contestant win.

“There will be no eviction on that day and performances of the day will not influence decision. So, people must vote now by sending an SMS of a code number of their favorite contestants to 0888267722 and the line closes at 5pm on Friday. In order to see how the last show went, a programme of it will be on MBC television from Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:30pm while on Wednesday and Friday it will be shown from 1pm,” he explained.

So far, judges will collectively contribute 50 percent of the vote.

“The judges will separately make an individual decision as to who should be a winner. Each judge has 16.67 percent which will be added to the percentage of the public vote of the selected contestant. Their independent decision will be shown on screen an hour before the actual show commences,” explained Njawala.

However, the organisers are yet to discuss how they will handle a situation of a tie.

On the menu for more entertainment will be Sunbird Search for Star winner Adrian Kwelepeta, award winning gospel musician Faith Mussa and Dan Lu.

Sunbird Tourism Limited has expressed satisfaction with how the competition has unfolded this year.

“We are happy with the progress so far. We are also happy with the top five as they are a reflection of what people who are following the show wanted. We would like to encourage them to vote more so that their contestant should emerge a winner come 11 October. As for the finale, what we can say is it will be bigger than before,’” said Sunbird Tourism public relations manager Akossa Mphepo.
