Dwangwa completes relegated teams’ list

Dwangwa United on Sunday lost 2-0 to hosts Karonga United to become the third and last team to be relegated from the TNM Super League this season.

Results released by Super League of  Malawi (Sulom) show that a brace by Clement Nyondo confined Dwangwa to the gallows, where they have joined Mlatho Mponela and Masters Security.

Dwangwa failed to escape relegation

Had they triumphed yesterday, Dwangwa could have survived the axe as they could have completed their fixtures on 33 points to displace SavendaChitipa United, who are on 13th place with 32 points.

However, the latest defeat means they have finished on 14th place with 30 points.

Yesterday, Dwangwa needed a win at all cost to avoid the chop after worsening their situation with a one-all draw against Chitipa.

Dwangwa coach LadwellMbetewa said relegation is a painful experience, but it was inevitable to avoid the chop with their last two games being played away in Karonga.

“In Karonga, it was tough because we were not only playing against Chitipa and Karonga, but the referees as well. They did everything possible to see us lose our games,” he said.

However, he also blamed their recent poor form for contributing to their miserable fate.

Dwangwa’s exit means that all relegated outfits this season are from the Central Region Football League.
