yesterday denied Be Forward Wanderers their fourth consecutive TNM Super League win when they held them to a goalless draw at Balaka Stadium.

The Nomads missed a golden opportunity to carry the day when their experienced midfielder Joseph Kamwendo’s spot-kick was kept out by the Nkhotakota-based outfit’s goalkeeper Carrington Misomali.

The penalty was awarded after Dwangwa defender Ganizani James had fouled Nomads forward Zicco Mkanda in the box.

Kamwendo missed a penalty

Reacting to the penalty miss, Kamwendo said: “It is one of those things. Penalties are like lottery and it is unfortunate that I couldn’t score.”

Nomads coach Bob Mpinganjira defended Kamwendo saying: “Penalties are tricky, you can either score or miss. It is no guarantee that one will score and we have even seen big names such as [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi missing at the ongoing 2018 World Cup.”

Commenting on his team’s overall performance, the Nomads coach said: “We tried everything, but perhaps we just didn’t have an ounce of luck today. We would have loved to register a fourth win on the trot, but it didn’t happen.”

Dwangwa coach Lloyd Nkhwazi commended his players for a spirited performance.

“I would say it [the game] was 50-50. We also had a clear chance which we missed in the first half with only the goalkeeper to beat,” he said.

Following the draw, the Nomads are now fourth with 18 points from 10 games, eight points behind leaders Silver Strikers who have played a game more.

Dwangwa are 12th with 13 points from 12 matches. Ironically, all the other Super League matches played yesterday—involving Kamuzu Barracks and Mafco and Red Lions against Moyale Barracks— ended goalless. n
