Dwangwa United’s ambition of returning to the Super League is on track as they have now extended their lead to 10 points at the top of Chipiku Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Premier League.

The Dwangwa cane field-based side collected six points at the weekend after beating Dowa United 1-0 and Hungry Lions 2-0 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

On Sunday, Jack Chiona and Kingsley Kapalumula were on target for Dwangwa.

The leaders now have 66 points from 29 games.

“We have a healthy 10-point lead and I do not think Support Battalion can surmount that lead. We just need to keep up the momentum and not get complacent. It is still a long way to go, but we will make it,” said Dwangwa team manager Dave Mwandira in a telephone interview from Nkhotakota.

Support Battalion beat Ndaula 4-2 on Saturday.

The Malawi Defence Force side’s assistant coach Manto Lampu said they have not given up on winning the league.

“We have two games in hand and that means if we win both games, the gap can be reduced to just four points. They [Dwangwa] are not home and dry yet, we can catch up with them. It is premature for them to claim they are already in the promised land,” said Lampu in a telephone interview from Mvera, Dowa.

In other matches, third-placed Msundwe United beat Warm Heart Bullets 4-1, Master Security beat Kasungu Medicals 1-0 whereas Nambuma beat Namitete Young Rangers 2-0. n
