Dwangwa Sugar Factory loses 2% of sugar—report

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) Limited’s Dwangwa Factory loses about two percent of sugar due to broken pre-pack seals.

The company’s management trainee Chumba Munthali said this in a paper he presented at Illovo Malawi in Training (MIT) Conference in Blantyre on Friday.

The presentation, entitled Pre-pack Sealing Problems: Causes Effects and Proposed Solutions, explores challenges the factory faces and proposes possible solutions of arresting sugar wastage.

Munthali, who was one of the best presenters at the conference, said his presentation was motivated by huge volumes of sugar that goes for repacking.

Illovo Sugar Malawi public relations officer Irene Phalula said the company is aware of the problem and they are working hard to correct it.

Ministry of Labour Principal Secretary Wezi Kayira, who opened the conference, thanked Illovo Malawi for investing in staff development.

He said with the current economic situation few companies are training their employees.

The company has been running such management training programmes since 1997 when it took over from Lonrho.
