International Association for Refugees Canada and Health Partners International (Canada) have donated medical drugs to Dzaleka Health Centre in Dowa.

The donation, made through a non-governmental organisation called There is Hope, also seeks to support the facility’s efforts in taking care of Covid-19 cases.

In an interview, Dzaleka Health Centre in-charge Henry Lali said they needed more resources to serve people efficiently.

“The drugs, some for Covid-19, have closed the gaps we had in medical supplies at the facility,” he said.

On his part, There is Hope executive director Innocent Magambi said the facility also besides refugees, serves people from Dowa District.

“We hope to continue supporting the facility during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) associate public health officer Kingsley Ojeikere said the drugs will enable the facility to provide basic healthcare to people.

“The health centre provides many services, including antenatal and post-natal care,” he said.

Currently, Dzaleka Refugee Camp has a quarantine site and an isolation treatment centre following the collaboration among UNHCR, Ministry of Homeland Security, Ministry of Health, and other partners.
