E-Wallet launch shifted gain

After successfully conducting national auditions for the talent show E Wallet, the grand launch has for the third time been shifted to an undisclosed date.

Initially, the launch of Malawi’s sole talent was scheduled for September 1 2012, but was shifted to September 29 due to national auditions that took place.

Said E-Wallet organising chairperson Felix Njawala: “There are several festivals taking place in the country, one of them being the Summer Time Gala, taking place on September 29 at Livingstonia Beach in Salima. We, therefore, want to give chance to such festivals.”

The following weekend, thus 5th – 7th October, the French Cultural Centre is the venue for the Blantyre Arts Festival (BAF), where afro-pop singer-songwriter from Mali Salif Keïta will open the festival with a performance.

“The festivals are equally important to the nation and they are crashing with our event’s calendar. Obviously, one side would definitely dominate the day and, therefore, we thought it was ideal to give a chance to Malawians to patronise the festivals since they’re one-off events,” Njawala said.

Despite the change, the venue for E-Wallet official launch remains Sunbird Capital hotel marquee where all the 26 contestants are expected to perform.

According to Njawala, the ethnic group of the Akamwile fame, Fikisa, will also entertain patrons.

Radio personality Chrissie Tafadzwa Kanjira will be the MC at the event.
