Eagles halt Mafco’s remarkable run

Micium Mhone’s goal seven minutes after the start gave hosts Blue Eagles momentum to dictate proceedings of the game and halt Mafco’s four-game winning streak.Mafco still lead the table with 12 points from five gamnes.

Mhone connected first time from John Banda’s exquisite cross. The resultant connection slipped between Mafco goalkeeper Jailos Kapalamula’s legs who was caught off guard.

Eagles could have easily added the second in the 67th minute. Schumacher Kuwali played a fine pass to Junior Malidadi who was unmarked in the box, but he shot wide of the goal.

Mafco countered swiftly through Zasha M’nong’oneza who played a long pass to Calisto Kalinda. Kalinda beat two defenders, but his shot hit the bar. The rebound fell on the feet of Paul Phiri whose effort again hit the post.

Mafco continued to pile the pressure, but Eagles held on for the dear three points.

Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona gave credit to his team for a decent performance.

“My players worked very hard the entire game. Our game plan was to score first and let Mafco chase the game. Fortunately, the plan worked,” said Msakakuwona in a post- match brief.

Stereo Gondwe accepted the loss with dignity.

“We had chances, but failed to use them. But it is a lesson for us,” said Gondwe

After  showcasing brilliant football at Kamuzu Stadium, Dedza Young Soccer failed to stop the defending champions Big Bullets as they went down 5-2.

It was Bullets’s Bashir Maunde who scored the opener in the ninth minute before Eneya Banda scored their first in the 19th minute.

Dedza, with their good passes, scored a lone goal in the first-half through John Banda in the 21st minute, who later missed a penalty after Bullets goalkeeper Owen Chaima cleared it. Half-time it was 2-1 in favour of Bullets.

In the second-half, Bullets continued from where they stopped. Eneya scored the third goal after receiving a pass from Jaffalie Chande before Chiukepo Msowoya added the fourth goal from the spot after Dave Ng’ambi was fouled by Dedza defender.

Man-of-the-match Yamikani Fodya scored the fifth through a free-kick before Haswel Gamphani scored the second for Dedza after Maunde’s mistake.

Coach Miliyasi Pofera for Dedza blamed his goalkeeper Carrington Misomali for the defeat.

Bullets are now second on the log table with 10 points from four games.
