Mafco will automatically go top of the 16-team league if they win today, but fourth-placed Silver can only go top if they win and Mafco draws.

Depending on the outcome of the Silver match, the Nomads have a chance to go second if they can win both their games in Dwangwa. They face Dwangwa United on Sunday.

The Nomads are on ninth position with 28 points from 17 games.

Mafco coach Thomas Maloya said his team is poised to go top this afternoon.

“Of course, we have an advantage that we are playing at home and our preparations are on track, but nevertheless, it is going to be a tough match,” he said.

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) outfit will bank its hopes on the league’s joint leading scorer Richard Mbulu and Callisto Kalinda.

Commenting on their outing to Dwangwa, Nomads coach Eddingtone Ng’onamo said their target is to bag maximum points.

“We are going to Dwangwa to get six points. Our aim is to be on second position and we are serious about that. It will be a tough task, but we are set for that,” said Ng’onamo in an interview on Thursday.

He has since appealed to the club’s fans from the Northern Region to travel to Dwangwa to cheer their team.

Joint leading scorer Peter Wadabwa and Jaffalie Chande have proven to be hitmen and have come to the rescue of the Nomads on numerous occasions and they could help their team achieve their target should they be on song..

Silver head coach Young Chimodzi said they have a game plan to get a result against Mzuni.

“We know they are a good team that can cause surprises, but we are ready for them. I have confidence in the squad we have and I think we will win. We just need to attack and be clinical in front of goals,” said Chimodzi.

Captain Lucky Malata, Thuso Paipi, Duncan Nyoni, Binwell Katinji, Victor ‘Vibre’ Limbani, Levison Maganizo and Mathews Sibale are some of the players that can bring results for Silver on a good day.

Mzuni coach Alex Ngwira has since warned Silver not to underestimate them.

“We are taking the fight to them. We will fight hard to ensure we collect three points, “ he said. n
