EAM fights gender-based violence in Karonga

Evangelical Association of Malawi Karonga district coordinator Dumisani Nungu has asked community leaders to take a leading role in fighting gender-based violence (GBV) in the district.

He said this on Saturday in Traditional Authority Mwakaboko in the district during a three-day training of mother groups and village development committees (VDCs) on GBV.

Said Nungu: “Besides the training, Evangelical Association of Malawi [EAM] plans to revamp local structures to coordinate the fight against GBV.

“Community leaders are the eyes and ears of government or organisations. So, be proactive on GBV issues.”

In his remarks, Mwakaboko Village Development Committee chairperson Austin Maheya said revamping the structures will enhance coordination among stakeholders fighting GBV in the district.

“We will conduct awareness campaign against GBV in the area,” he said.

EAM is implementing Timazge Nkhaza Project with funding from Norwegian Church Aid in the district.
