Eastern Produce Limited will invest close to K4 million (US$9 569) to erect a brick fence around Mulanje Boma Park Football ground.

The brick fence is meant to protect a new grass pitch which is at risk of destruction by passers-by and motor vehicle learner drivers.

According to Eastern Produce managing director, Rick Tilley, they decided to contribute towards the project, which will cost about K25 million, after being approached by Mulanje District Council.

Tilley urged other stakeholders to join hands in helping the council to have a protected and decent pitch to promote sports in the district.

“Normally, we target our assistance towards construction of school blocks and water facilities,” said Tilley.

Mulanje district sports committee chairperson Kantigo Phiri said Eastern Produce has already started assembling construction materials such as sand.

“We hope other stakeholders will emulate this kind gesture,” said Phiri.
