Eastern region police arrest 13 suspected criminals

Police in Malawi’s Eastern Region have arrested 13 suspected criminals who have been terrorising residents Namwela in Mangochi.

The suspects were arrested during a three day operation conducted at Namwela area following reports of crime increase.rre

Eastern Region police spokesperson, Joseph Sauka,  said officers raided the criminals’ hiding places, arrested them and managed to recover stolen goods which include a motorcycle, home theatres, sewing machines, bicycles, DVD players, computer accessories, radios, speakers, solar panels and phones.

He said some were also found with Indian hemp and medical drugs without permit.

“All the suspects are still in custody and are expected to appear before court soon. They will answer burglary and robbery cases including being found in possession of cannabis sativa and medical drugs without permit,” explained Sauka.

Meanwhile, Police in the region have thanked the general public for the support that has led to the arrest of the suspects.
