Youth Decide 2019 Campaign coordinator Dalitso Magelegele says youths in the country have the capacity to influence change during the May 21 Tripartite Elections outcome.

He said this on Wednesday in Zomba when the organisation held a consultative meeting with youths from the Eastern Region on the significance of taking part in electoral processes.

It transpired during the meeting that for decades, despite being in majority, youths have been side-lined from political platforms from where they could address their concerns as there are few or no youth’s representatives in decision-making positions.

He said 60 percent of the country’s population are the youth and 54 percent of people that registered to vote in the tripartite elections are the youth; hence, the need to empower them to decide the next government.

“Besides voting, youths have the capacity to contest for presidential, parliamentary and ward councillor positions,” he said.

A youthful aspirant for Machinga Central Constituency Godfrey Kalozwa of Democratic People’s Congress urged the youth to vote wisely in the May 21 Tripartite Elections.
