The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has adopted an electoral cycle approach to elections through which elections are viewed as an ongoing activity.
EC chairperson Supreme Court of Appeal Judge Anastasia Msosa said this in Blantyre on Monday when she opened a five-day training course on civic education for the commission, the Malawi Electoral Support Network (Mesn) and Ministry of Information staff.
“Let me remind you that elections are a process. The EC just like other electoral management bodies worldwide has adopted an electoral cycle approach to elections through which elections are viewed as an ongoing activity with no end cycle.
“It is with this view that the commission concentrates on building the capacity of its stakeholders and staff in between the ballots to ensure that the elections are delivered with professionalism,†said Msosa.
She added that the commission wants to adopt a practice where all stakeholders would be taken on board before, during and after election period.
