Speaking to the media on Thursday in Blantyre, Ecam President Emmanuel Banda said the awards were organised to celebrate the association’s 50 years of existence while appreciating the efforts done by various employers in various companies and organisations.

“We influence best practices at work places. In regard to this, we thought of coming up with these awards to celebrate deserving employers and achievements we have made.

“We engaged an audit and verification firm-KPMG to provide an objective analysis and ensure that the outcome is credible and correct,” he said.

Banda disclosed that the event, which is happening for the first time will be an annual activity pointing that there is need to recognise efforts done by employers in the country’s economic development.

“This event was meant to celebrate the association’s 50 years of existence but looking back, there are a number of achievements that we have made and need to be embraced. We have, among other things, launched the ‘ease report’ which aims to provide enabling sustainable environment at the work place,” he said.

According to Banda, there were 26 companies which expressed interest out of which six will be awarded depending on the categories. The association will on top of the six also award two other categories -largest employer and overall top employer.
