Chilima will also serve as the group’s spokesperson, according to a statement signed by its president Henry Kachaje.

“Mr Edward Chilima is a seasoned economist who previously served as the president of Ecama until August 2014. He holds a Master of Business Administration(MBA) from the University of Malawi’s the Polytechnic and a bachelor degree in Social Sciences (Economics) from the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College,” he said.

Chilima, who takes over from Nelson Mkandawire who earlier resigned, has previously served as an economist at the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), managing director for First Discount House (FDH), head of corporate banking for FDH Bank and chief business development officer for CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB).

Kachaje said Ecama is confident that with Chilima’s rich professional experience in economics, the financial and banking sector, combined with his prior experience as the president of the association, will ably represent the association.

Ecama is a local economic think-tank for economists in Malawi and other interested parties. n
