Imagine leaving the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and walking into an elegantly appointed lounge where the music is mellow and the atmosphere conducive to relaxing.

Paint the picture in your mind, then walk through the polished brass doors into The Chameleon at the Four Season’s Center in Lilongwe.

See the sink-down-into cushioned chairs, the handsome mahogany bar and listen to the sweet sounds emanating from the musicians at the side of the room. You may want to stay here for hours.

Dome ceiling lights, small tables, touches of rich polished wood and music suited for the most sophisticated clubs create a beautiful scene.

This is how it was on Friday when acoustic music lovers were given a rare treat in Lilongwe, where a Malawian duo of Edgar Kachere and Davis Njovu brought down the house through a steamy jam session.

The venue was immersed in both jazzy and soulful tunes that left the watching audience captivated and provided an avenue for the eager ones to dance along to the tunes of the famous duo popular known as Edgar ndi Davis and veteran Giddes Chalamanda.

From the word go deep into the night, the duo had been at their best dishing out good music to revellers who many of them danced along.

With backings from Davie Nthara and other members Noah Bulambo and Layison Njati popularly known as Anko Layi they did not disappoint their fans and took the audience on a journey of acoustic vibes and performed for more than three hours.

Edgar ndi Davis played several songs from their albums including ‘Wazelezeka, Fanwell, Zukhala Bwanji Kodi, and Galuyu.

Before the duo, veteran musician Chalamanda wowed fans and left them chanting, “A Gide, a Gidee”. He really proved that at the age of 80, he is still going strong by singing Liny and the reggae song ‘Babie Comeback,’ which he played twice due to public demand.

He also dished songs like Napolo, Che Meli and ‘Buffalo Soldier,’

which was originally done by Bob Marley.

Although he played the guitar while seated, he was lively dancing and he even engaged some women in the audience.

Edgar ndi Davis also spiced up their event with some dances with the audience and gave out their branded T-Shirts and CDs to some lucky fan lovers.

One fan Gerard Gondwe said the group alongside Giddes gave them maximum entertainment.

“This is what we want when we come to shows, the musicians were serious and the venue is also good,” he said.
