Education vital for development—Kanyumba
Malawi Minister for Education, Science and Technology Lucius Kanyumba says government is committed to ensuring that schools have adequate resources for teaching and learning.
Kanyumba said this at the ministry warehouse in Blantyre Chichiri Thursday as he receivd learning materials worth $780 000 government bought with assistance from the World Bank.
Kanyumba said the materials will enable a conducive learning and teaching environment for the betterment of education standards.
“I would like to warn the people that are involved in the distribution of such materials to ensure that they reach their destinations in the required amounts,” warned the minister.
Kanyumba said they will put mechanisms to monitor the distribution of the materials so that every school receives them.
He also pleaded with communities where the books are going, saying they need to ensure that the materials are well taken care of.
Some of the materials that have been purchased are dusters, chalk, slates and books and they will be distributed all public primary schools across the country.
Out of the 11 containers of the materials that have been purchased, only eight have been offloaded at the warehouse while the remainder are being cleared with Manica.
