Egypt grants scholarships to Malawi

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Francis Phiso has commended the Arab Republic of Egypt for its tireless efforts in strengthening ties with Malawi through various developmental interventions.

He made the remarks in Lilongwe on Friday when he presented Egyptian Government’s full scholarships to 14 Malawian youths to pursue studies in various disciplines.

Said Phiso: “Youth empowerment is one key area where the government of Egypt has really helped us on and especially when it comes to seeing more youths attending tertiary education.

“As government, it pleases us to see scholarships like these being offered to those in need.”

He urged the awardees to work hard and remember that they are carrying the Malawian flag wherever they would be.

On his part, Egyptian Ambassador Hassan Shawky said it is pleasing to see more youths in the country are interested in pursuing their careers in Egypt.

“The youth are the leaders of today and tomorrow; hence, the need to invest in them. We believe that the success of Malawi reflects that of Egypt,” he said.

Shawky said the next cohort of 30 students will leave the country in January for further studies in Egypt.

One of the awardees, Cynthia Kagwamminga thanked the Egyptian government for the opportunity to study engineering in a different environment.
