Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi (ELCM) with financial support from its sister church in the United States of America, has established an information centre at its headquarters in Lilongwe.

ELCM has installed 20 desktop computers with free Internet service and a gaming room which has pool tables, mini soccer and indoor games.

Bvumbwe: We want to keep the youth busy

Speaking when he officially opened the centre on Sunday, ELCM head  Bishop Joseph Bvumbwe said the centre will help keep the youth busy.

“It has always been my dream to establish information centres everywhere we have a church so as to keep the youth busy. Last year, we opened the first one in Madisi, Dowa and today we are here in Lilongwe,” said Bvumbwe.

Bvumbwe said they have invested K50 million for each of the two centres.

“We want to direct the minds of youths to progressive things and to keep them busy instead of them indulging in alcohol and drugs. The centres are not limited to youths belonging to ELCM, but all churches,” he said.

Rachel Gondwe, one of the youths benefiting from the centres thanked ELCM for providing a centre, where youths will interact, play games and learn computers.

“This is a place where we can relax, learn computers, play games and get entertained. I am grateful to ELCM for this initiative,” she said.n
