There has been some excitement among social media music enthusiasts over an Instagram post by a team member of visiting South Africa’s Mlindo allegedly suggesting that they have signed Eli Njuchi.

The local music sensation has generated so much interest since unveiling his first album The Book of Eli a month ago and since then a lot of people have expressed their feelings and views on his potential. And the latest post from an individual identified as Nyiko the Great has been another subject of debate.

Man of the moment: Eli Njuchi

The post, accompanied by two pictures of Eli Njuchi, reads: “Africa here we come. His name is Eli Njuchi [tag]. He is the next super star [emoji]. Signing him under South African management.”

The post attracted a lot of interest from Malawians and it was subsequently reposted on the local online entertainment and music hub Mikozi Network where it also attracted a lot of positive comments.

Lurvey Jagz Nyika wrote: “Just what our industry needs. More recognition and exposure. Big up Eli Njuchi.”

But the artist’s manager Prince Chikweba said there is nothing like that on the ground as far as their side is concerned. He said they have not been contacted by anyone and they are not moved in any way.

Chikweba said: “The guy who posted that is just Mlindo’s road manager. Mlindo is managed under DJ Mapholisa’s label and we are not attaching any significance to that post. We take it as one of those posts people have made to appreciate Eli.”
