Brother’s Keeper to hit the screens

Last year, sensational urban musician Maskal real name Masiye Kasaru and Angel ‘Tigris’ Mizinga put up a spirited performance, at the Big Brother stage. Other local artists who have had a chance of performing on such a huge platform are Limbani ‘Tay Grin’ Kalirani, Theo Thomson and Francis ‘Young K‘ Kaphuka.

This has pushed show loving Malawians to set up a an online poll, where Malawians are voting as to which artist they would like to see perform this time around.

However, Multi Choice Malawi Sales and Marketing Manager for the South Chimwemwe Nyirenda says that at the moment, nobody, not even his office, is aware of the Malawian artists who will perform during this year’s Big Brother reality show.

Nyirenda explained that the duty of choosing an artist to perform rests in the hands of the show’s producers-Endemol.

“They choose artists who suit the Big Brother target audience and appeal to the African stage among other reasons. We [Multi Choice Malawi] are just communicated to,” said Nyirenda.

He added: “Our role in this issue is to facilitate the whole process by submitting songs of artists in Malawi. We have sent about 50 songs to Endemol, and producers of Big Brother, the company will make a decision as to who will perform and when upon listening to the music.”

Nyirenda said the same process applies to guest DJs who perform during every Saturday’s one hour party for housemates’ and the Sunday’s eviction show.

“It is at the discretion of Endemol to choose a DJ, and normally he/she is chosen by the partner radio, which in Malawi is FM 101,” he added.

According to Nyirenda, a Malawian DJ is set to perform during the weekend of 23 and 24th June. Meanwhile, as eviction returns to the Big Brother Downville house where Ghana’s Mildred and Keitta and Botswana’s Edith and Eve face possible elimination tonight, the week going by has been full of drama.

The highlight of all is that Angola is out of contention for the 300 000 USD soon after its pair of Seydou and Esparanca voluntarily exited the game.

The bomb finally fell on Angola’s Star Game fans after Esparanca who made a similar request to Big Brother just three days into the game, on Thursday made up her mind and the two left.

Esperanca, who earlier said she had pressing matters at home, told Big Brother that it was horrible, and went on to say that she was so stressed and depressed and therefore wanted to leave immediately.

As per rules of the game, she was supposed to leave with her pair Seydou, who seemed determined to continue with his luck in the house.
