Premier Division pacesetters Evirom will be hoping to break clear from close pursuers Cobbe Barracks as the Southern Region Football League (SRFL) enters its competitive phase this weekend.

Hot striker Steve Dairi and captain/defender Acid Simbeja will be expected to be at their best when Evirom, coached by Aubrey Nankhuni and Paul Kachingwe, travel to Kalulu Stadium for a dance with fifth-placed Nchalo United.

Since their relegation last season from the Super League, Evirom have readjusted to life back to the second-tier league effortlessly going 10 games unbeaten with Dairi among the leading snipers.

Evirom lead on 26 points and could increase their tally when taking on struggling BNC tomorrow at Kamuzu Stadium in a noon kick-off.

Nchalo too have made a positive start, a season after their hibernation; have collected 16 points in 10 games on the 22-member table.

Second-placed Bvumbwe Research are not in action over the weekend, thereby paving the way for third-positioned (19 points) Cobbe to narrow that gap to just a point if they manage to beat hard nut to crack Azam Tigers Reserve and Ndirande Icons today and tomorrow.

In midweek action, Nyasa United lost 2-0 to Prison United at the BAT Ground to remain 18th with a meagre eight points. Nyasa striker Chisomo Kamlanje has since warned that Nyasa “need reinforcements if we are to make a grade.”
