Epac FC maintained their winning formula against visiting Blantyre United on Saturday at Silver Stadium in a TNM Super League fixture.

Last week, they beat league leaders Silver Strikers 3-1.

In the win against BT United, two goals from Jafalie Chande and Ishmael Thindwa in the second-half ensured that they collected three points, taking their tally to 16 from 13 games. They remain with a game to finish the first round.

In the first minute of the second-half, Chande headed in the opener from a Christopher Kautsire well-curved ball past Carlington Misomali on goal for Blantyre United. Thindwa scored his fourth goal in four matches 10 minutes into the second-half.

United could have pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but Abraham Kumwenda failed to tap in from a Maxwell Chirwa cross, with ‘keeper Jailos Kapalumula well out of position. Five minutes later, Kumwenda again blasted wide a Sparrow Msowoya pass.

“It was just not our day. We did everything to win, but could not score goals. Epac utilised their chances. That’s football,” said a distraught United coach Elia Kananji.

But Epac coach Abbas Makawa was all smiles after the final whistle, though he admitted that it was a tough encounter which could have gone either way.

“They [Blantyre United] are a great team as they play team football, but what mattered today was points and we won,” said Makawa.
