Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has handed Epac United midfielder Kelvin Thotho for unsporting behaviour during the match against Silver Striker at Silver Stadium last Monday.

Thotho reportedly received marching orders during the match for reacting angrily to a referee’s decision not to award him a free-kick after he was fouled.  Before the referee flashed the red card he snatched it and threw it back at him.

According to a verdict issued yesterday, signed by vice general secretary Thoko Chazema, the player will serve a total of six matches.

“Super League of Malawi, pursuant  to Article 21 (6) of Rules and Regulations of Sulom as read with Article 49 (a) of Fifa  Disciplinary  Code,  suspends  your  player  for  further  four  (4)  matches  in  addition to the red card making a total of six (6) matches suspension,” it reads in part.

Epac coach Audlow Makonyola welcomed the ban, saying it will serve as a warning to his players.

“I always want my players to behave no matter the circumstances they are under. I am pleased that Thotho has been punished further,” he said.

Makonyola said he would have punished Thotho if Sulom had not taken further action against the midfielder.

“If he escaped further ban I would have imposed my own punishment just to ensure that my players learn a lesson from his conduct,” he said.

Thotho has already missed two games against Silver and Kamuzu Barracks over the weekend which his side lost by 1-0 margins. n
