Equip women with technical skills—MDI

Munazzamat Al – Dawa Al – Islamia (MDI) has said economically empowered women are cornerstones of socio–economic development of the society.
The observation was made at Mubarak Complex in Zomba, where women from different parts of the city acquired free tailoring lessons.
Principal of the complex, Munilla Abdulla, said they decided to train women in tailoring to bail them out of poverty that leads many of their flock into domestic gender-based violence.
Abdulla said since they started training women in 2007, the majority of their graduates have opened own tailoring shops while others are employed in government and private institutions.

“It feels good to see that women who used to struggle to earn a living in their respective households are now living better lives because of tailoring skills,” said Abdulla.
She advised girls and women in the country to be vigilant and creative in using their skills to generate money.
Acting mayor for Zomba City Davie Maunde hailed MDI and also asked other stakeholders to follow suit in strengthening women economic affairs.
