Escom confident of collecting six points in Lilongwe

Giants Escom United, who are fighting relegation, have vowed to collect all the six points in their weekend trip to the capital city.

They face Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday and Epac FC on Sunday.

Escom’s former head of caretaking coaching panel, Kondwani Gawani, says winning both games is a must.

Escom are currently second from bottom with 16 points from 19 games. They are three points above bottom-placed Kabwafu and two below Bvumbwe Research. Epac are just a place above relegation zone with 21 points while Barracks are above them with 25 points.

Gawani said the games are crucial as they are against their strongest relegation contenders.

“These two games could prove crucial to our fight for relegation as they may lift our spirits to fight more or condemn us for good, so we look for nothing short of six points,” he said.

Under Gawani and his co-coaches Noel Mkandawire and Chiukepo Msowoya, the team has not been any better than before. The only achievement was reaching the finals of the Carlsberg Cup, which they lost 1-0 to Blue Eagles.
