About a month after the Carlsberg Cup final match was played, losing finalists Escom United players are yet to get their share from the prize money.

Escom lost 1-0 to Blue Eagles in the final match last month.

One of the players who asked for anonymity said they were yet to get their dues.

“Imagine up to now we have not been paid our Carlsberg Cup prize money dues and the situation is very frustrating,” said the player.

But while confirming the development, the club’s chairperson Fanuel Nkhono attributed the development to other unforeseen circumstances.

“It is indeed true that our players are yet to get their Carlsberg Cup dues due to some logistics.

“As you are aware, we currently have no sponsor and what actually happened was that prior to the final, we got an overdraft from a bank to meet the operations of running the club.

“So, we used the prize money to settle the overdraft, but the players will be paid their dues soon,” said Nkhono.

Asked if the development might not affect the team’s performance in their quest to avoid relegation, Nkhono said: “We explained the situation to the players and we hope they understand.”
