While the players claimed they were owed over K4 million (about $24 000), they got much less after it was established that they owed the club through personal loans.
Club chairperson Fanuel Nkhono and two senior players—Maupo Msowoya and Noel Mkandawire—confirmed that the issue about the outstanding dues is now a closed chapter.
Said Nkhono: “In fact, in some instances, after reconciling the figures, it was established that the players owed the club some money, but the bottom line is that the issue was resolved amicably.”
Mkandawire said they are happy that the club has settled the outstanding dues.
On his part, Msowoya said: “Yes, I have heard that my colleagues have been paid their dues, but I am yet to get in touch with the chairperson [Nkhono].”
Recently, some senior players who were transfer-listed demanded that the club should settle their dues before they could be sold.
Among other things, the players claimed the club had not paid them their K2 million (about $12 000) cut from the 2011/12 TNM Super League prize money. It also included game bonus arrears for the 2010/11 season amounting to about K86 000 ($514) each player.
Apart from Mkandawire and Msowoya, the transfer-listed players include Heston Munthali, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Chipiliro Jose and Young Chimodzi Jnr.
