Escom struggle, Tigresses get easy ride

Listen to this article

Title-holders Escom Sisters scrapped their way to a 35-29 victory over MTL Queens as Bingu Tigresses enjoyed an easy 86-13 ride over Woget Stars during the 2012 OG Issa Netball League opening matches at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Saturday.

With almost 90 percent of their young players thrown into the game, the Queens teased and tormented the Sisters.

The likes of Liana Mtenje, Thandiwe Mwale and old guard Emma Mzagada broke the Sisters’ defence with ease, but most of their final shots were not satisfactory.

In an interview, Sisters coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda, who was in Mzuzu then, said he did not expect his team to be up to scratch on that day as they trained only for a week and they missed the services of key players Esther Kiombwe and Saludzai Gondwe, who were out with injuries.
