The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) will for the first time be involved with golf through sponsorship of a ladies golf tournament on Sunday at Blantyre Sports club.

Escom, which has previously supported football and netball, will sponsor prizes and gifts at the event.

The company’s marketing and business development manager Wiseman Kabwazi said they would like to support the development of ladies golf.

“We have noticed that there is a huge interest in golf participation by women nowadays and we feel we should help them.

“On top of that, we are targeting women through this tournament because they are decision-makers. They are good advisers and share a lot of information.

“Our particular interests are energy efficiency solutions and products and new electricity payments solutions and women have huge potential of helping us promote that,” said Kabwazi.

The tournament is expected to attract 20 golfers.
