Escom United sweat on Chiukepo’s clearance

Escom United might have to wait a few more days before they can use their returning striker Chiukepo Msowoya.

As of Thursday, Escom were hoping for the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to clear Msowoya so that they feature him in today’s Standard Bank Knockout Cup second leg quarter-final against Mighty Wanderers.

The striker’s former South African club Orlando Pirates, through FAM, issued his release letter a few days ago, according to the Electricians’ general secretary Richard Samba and technical adviser Reuben Mwangonde.

But FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda on Friday said Msowoya will have to wait for transfer matching system (TMS) Malawi manager Casper Jangale to return from a Fifa workshop in Tunisia.

“Casper has the password to process the clearance; hence, Msowoya will be cleared once Casper returns,” said Nyirenda. Despite training with Escom, Msowoya has also been linked with moves to South African clubs Santos and Bloemfontein Celtic.

Fifa trained one manager in each country to process electronically players’ transfer to arrest the cutting of corners.

Escom, who drew 1-1 with the Nomads, are also unable to use another returning forward Victor Nyirenda as he is preoccupied with personal engagements, according to Mwangonde.
