Ethiopia envoy to Malawi bids farewell

Listen to this article

EthiopiaEthiopia and Malawi have pledged to continue adopting common positions over key regional and global issues and to further strengthen their long-standing bilateral relations.

Outgoing Ethiopian Ambassador to Malawi Shemsuidin Ahmed Robbie said the pledge was the highlight of discussions he held, in camera, with President Peter Mutharika, to whom he bade farewell at the end of his four-year tour of duty at Kamuzu Palace on Friday in Lilongwe.

“Ethiopia and Malawi have a common stand on many issues. We always walk together in areas of mutual interest and we want to strengthen these bilateral ties further,” Robbie told journalists after the palace audience.

The envoy is based in Nairobi, Kenya, from where he also represented his country, on a non-residential basis, in Tanzania and the Seychelles.

He expressed happiness that the discussions with the President included the blossoming relations in the air transport sector, where Ethiopian Airlines and Malawian Airlines are in a strong business joint venture that is giving quality services to travellers within Malawi, between this country and Ethiopia and those on long-haul international travel.

Robbie stated that all opportunities, including the expansion of trade, should be explored for the benefit of the ordinary people in the two countries.

“My meeting with the President has been good,” he reflected, wishing Malawians year-end felicitations and prosperity in 2015.
