The skills include information and communications technology (ICT) and HIV/Aids.

In an interview after opening the information hut, general secretary for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi Mable Madinga said the aim of setting up the hut is to help youths in acquiring practical skills and in the process refrain from immoral behaviour.

“We want to target the youth with necessary skills and also empower them with peer education and skills on how to prevent HIV and Aids,” she said.

The information hut is a project that is being supported by the Lutheran Community in Southern Africa and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

One of the learners, White Muwa, described the initiative as good, saying it will go a long way in helping youths acquire a lot of relevant skills.

The setting up of the information hut cost about K22 million and learners will be paying a subsidised fee of K22 000 for a five-month period.

The information hut will be accommodating 16 learners in the morning and another 16 in the afternoon. n
