Gospel musician Evance ‘Watsopano’ Meleka has added his voice to the infamous plunder of public resources at Capitol hill and has released a new 12 track album titled ‘Cashgate’ whose take home message centres on the evils of the act and aims at comforting the afflicted.
Speaking to Malawi News Agency on Saturday (Mana) in Blantyre on the sidelines of his performance during a whistle stop campaign trail for opposition Democratic Progressive Party torch bearer in this year’s tripartite election Peter Mutharika, Meleka demonised the looting of public resources that has left many people suffering.
He said the cashgate scandal has created far reaching consequences that have disturbed many people’s well being hence that need for musicians to comfort those in misery.
“I believe that the people embroiled in the cashgate are fewer than those that have been afflicted so I thought of singing about it to alert those involved in the act never to do it again and comfort those that are facing its consequences.
“A human being is made up of three sections, the body, mind and soul and when one of affected the whole of it does not function well and I thought of painting a picture of the challenges people are facing due to this dehumanising act that has act and bring hope to people,” said Meleka who claims the album was God’s own revelation and was recorded soon after the matter was unravelled last year.
Meleka said being a gospel musician who proclaims God’s love for his people, has included various genres in the album with four of the 12 track cut speaking directly of people’s plight after the scandal came to light.
Meleka who used to be a secular musician said: “The new album contain tracks like Chinambalala that asks God to save his people from calamities of the of cashgate while in a song called Tione, I sing about the justice that all mighty has brought for Malawians on those that cause pain on others through cashgate among others.”
Asked whether he was responding to a political bone inside him on the new release and his being found performing for politicians, the husky soft spoken Meleka denied joining politics justifying that he only used the opposition DPP rallies to reach out to multitudes of people that usually are throng such gatherings with God’s messages.
