Rise and Shine

Evolve with change

Listen to this article

There is a well-known saying by an English author Israel Zangwill that says that “Everything changes, except change itself”. Others attribute this quotation to John F. Kennedy. There is another quotation on change by Ralph L. Woods which says that “There are no permanent changes because change itself is permanent”. At least we know that change will always be there and change will always affect us. Never expect that things will remain the same– good, great or bad and terrible events and situations will all come to last. Things have to change.

So, what does this mean for someone that wants to rise and shine? This means that we should all be prepared for change. Be ready that great moments will end, that bad situations will improve. So, when you have great moments and great time, savour the time.

Enjoy the great times but within limits and with moderation. Know that you may not always have great times. And this means also that while you are having a great time, some people may be going through hell. You need to ensure that you are not having a great time at the expense of others’ welfare.

It also means that you need to be sensitive to even those that may be going through hell for reasons that have nothing to do with you. Your great situations should also enable you to give relief to some of the aggrieved people some of the times. In this world, if all happy people tried to make happy the unhappy people, nearly all of us would be happy and if this happened all the time, nearly all of us would be happy nearly all the time.

Similarly, when you are not happy, remember that happiness may be around the corner. You cannot suffer for ever unless you don’t allow change to surprise you positively. Have a positive mind. Do not give up and don’t lose heart. Instead, work at accelerating the transformation to happy times – transition to success. If you want idle complaining about problems, you will remain in problems for a long time, only waiting for chance or accident to rescue you – events that are random and rare. But, if you work for it and drive your improvement, you should get out of the problems much faster. Work at getting out of problems.

Start by accepting the change or your situation. The faster we accept our situation, the earlier we embark on a path that takes us out of the problems. Once you accept the situation, you will be in a situation that you can ably work out the causes and reasons for finding yourself in the situation that you are in. The next step will be to identify the solutions that can help you get out of the problem at hand.

You can do this by using logical deduction which means thinking through your situation logically from one step to another leading to the solution. You can also find the solution by looking at how others did it. Look around for people that were in problems like yours before and study how they came out of the problems. Then copy and customise the solution to your particular circumstances.

Whether you are in a great or bad situation, remember that your situation can easily change. If you are in a great situation, you need to be proactively safeguarding yourself from drifting into problem areas. Or at least, work to delay the problems if they are eminent and unavoidable. If you are in a bad situation, you need to accept the situation while working to accelerate your rescue path to get out of the troubles fast.

Either way, you need to accept your situation, act proactively and gain as much control as you can. But also remember that ultimately, we as human beings cannot have the ultimate say on our situations and changes that will happen to us. Let us do our part and leave the rest to Nature. Good luck as you evolve with change!
