There is excitement among some urban music fans and artists following the shift of this year’s Urban Music Party (UMP) Festival Awards from Blantyre to Lilongwe.
There has been an outcry among the urban music fraternity from Lilongwe and Mzuzu to rotate the UMP Festival. Organisers Nde’feyo Entertainment have since announced that the 2017 UMP Awards will for the first time be held in Lilongwe.
“For the past years, I have been travelling to Blantyre just to be part of UMP Awards which is my favourite component of the UMP Festival. But this year I will be part of the excitement right in my base, Lilongwe,” said Andrew Msowoya a fan of UMP Festival.
Ken Zizwa Limamwe, one of Nde’feyo managers, described the shift to the Capital City as growth of the event.
“UMP Festival is growing from strength to strength. We are improving every year with noteworthy lessons. Therefore, we have decided to extend our reach to the capital city,” said Limamwe.
He added that there has been a huge demand from Lilongwe fans to stage the awards there to achieve a sense of balance as far as the glamorous event is concerned.
The Lilongwe event will be an evening Red Carpet one happening between November and December with dates and venue to be communicated later. n
