Exit Ng’oma, enter Chamangwana

Hannock Ng’oma has stepped aside as Mighty Wanderers FC chairperson.

Ng’oma announced his resignation through a phone text message he sent to all the executive committee members of the club on Sunday.

However, he could not be reached for comment Wednesday. The club’s new general secretary David Kanyenda, who will double as legal adviser, confirmed his resignation.

“He has indeed resigned owing to personal reasons and we have reluctantly accepted his decision.

“Wanderers FC would like to place on record its gratitude to Mr. Ng’oma for his contribution while at the helm of the club. Notably, the club won the 2011 edition of the Presidential Cup. Further, the club finished third in the Super League last season,” said Kanyenda.

He also said, as a former player and chairperson, Ng’oma will remain an integral part of the Nomads family.

In the SMS, Ng’oma is said to have indicated that he does not intend to lead the committee any more and advised it to fill his position in the manner it deems fit.

Ng’oma’s resignation comes barely a week after the club turned down a move by its main supporters committee to appoint a new executive committee which excluded him.

Meanwhile, the Nomads have restructured their executive committee, which now has former general secretary George Chamangwana at the helm.

But Chamangwana claimed that he was not aware of his appointment.

“Although I feel greatly honoured with the trust shown in me by the executive, I will have to meet my colleagues first to get official communication before I can commit myself,” he said.

Part of a press statement issued by Mighty Wanderers FC on Wednesday, reads: “Consequent upon the resignation of Mr Ng’oma as the chairman of the club, the executive committee, in exercise of its constitutional powers and upon wide consultations, has unanimously resolved to effect the following appointments with immediate effect.”

Gift Mkandawire has retained his position as first vice-chairperson and so has Francis Shawa, the club’s second vice-chairperson.

Hubert Mfune is the deputy general secretary responsible for publicity and supporters development.

Frank Kunje has been appointed deputy general secretary responsible for marketing while the treasurer is Davis Msadala. His assistants are Chiyembekezo Zidana (expenditure) and Vic Mbewe (revenue and fund-raising).

Committee members are Elia Mbale-Sikwese (infrastructure developments), Munguyi Nyirenda (youth development), a Mr Firoz (Central Region interests), Julius Mithi (Northern Region interests). Former vice-general secretary Richard Kambalame and a Mr. Chinyamu are members at large.

According to the statement, the committee will remain in force until the original mandate expires [in September].

“Thereafter, only duly registered members of the club will take part in elections for new office bearers,” reads part of the statement.

It also states that in due course, the executive committee shall announce establishment of a committee to oversee Wanderers’ 50th anniversary celebrations.
