Exp Momentum Advertising Agency says there is need for comprehensive and consistent civic education on the need to buy locally made products.

The firm’s project supervisor, Lovemore Galatiya, said this would assist the country in reducing the problem of foreign exchange through import substitution.

Exp Momentum held a Buy Malawi Campaign at Namiyango Market in Blantyre to sensitise people to buy local products which could help in saving foreign exchange and create employment.

During the day, people from all walks of life who bought a local product entered a competition that resulted in them winning prizes such as bags, caps and other household utensils.

“There are many ways in which we can save foreign exchange, and one of them is to stop buying foreign products. It is a pity that we complain about losing forex, yet the issue at hand is that we prefer foreign products,” said Galatiya.

The Buy Malawi Campaign is being led by Land O Lakes, farmers and local companies.
