Explosive object blows off boy’s hand

An unknown explosive object on Saturday night blew off a 11-year-old boy’s hand at Mchesi Township in Lilongwe.

Confirming the incident, Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula identified the victim as Lonjezo Kassim from James Village,Traditional Authority (TA) Phambala in Ntcheu District.

Dandaula said the boy was playing with some friends near Kamuzu Central Hospital Bridge where they found a round object tied with a string and he took it to his mother’s house at Mchesi.

“When it got dark at around 8pm, the Lonjezo decided to put the object in a fire while holding the rope and it suddenly exploded and severing his right hand,” said Dandaula.

Meanwhile, Lonjezo is admitted to the Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) where he is receiving treatment.

Police are advising parents and guardians to discourage children from picking up and playing with unknown objects to avoid such injuries. n
