Faith group endorses DPP
Faith leaders from different churches in Mzuzu have urged people in the Northern Region to re-elect the governing party’s candidates in the May 21Tripartite Elections.
The clergy, operating under the banner of Christian Justice International (CJI), say the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has implemented many development projects in the region.
The call comes a week after another Young Pastors Coalition (YPC) endorsed Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera as the right person to lead the country in the next five years.
But speaking at a press conference in Mzuzu yesterday, CJI president Bishop Amos Tchuma of Faith of God Church said the Peter Mutharika administration deserves another term because it has transformed the country by constructing roads and technical colleges.
“We urge Malawians to vote for DPP administration because of the sound leadership that has seen a number of development projects being implemented, especially in the Northern Region, which was called the dead North,” he said.
The organisation’s secretary, Pastor Davie Mzunga of Kingdom Life Ministry, hailed Mutharika for upholding democratic values.
However, Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has warned religious leaders against endorsing political candidates in the elections, saying this is a recipe for anarchy. n
